HKBU Innovations Wins Big at the 8th China (Shanghai) International Invention and Innovation Exhibition

 

HKBU innovations scored big at the China (Shanghai) International Invention & Innovation Exhibition, held from June 11 to 13 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition a& Convention Centre. This marks HKBU's second year of participation in the event, where three HKBU-licensed startups proudly brought home a remarkable collection of 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze awards in recognition of their pioneering research.

Silver Medal: AI-Powered Traditional Chinese Medicine Healthcare Platform – Prof. ZHANG Shiping, Associate Professor at Teaching and Research Division, School of Chinese Medicine

EC BOT is an intelligent evidence-based tele-healthcare platform designed to enhance the capabilities of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by integrating digital and smart technologies to create a new model of TCM health management. The project centers on tongue image collection and analysis as its core technology, combined with the collection of various health data, multimodal algorithms, and large language models. EC BOT provides users with comprehensive solutions, including self-assessment, health status evaluations and recordings, personalized remedial recommendations, and professional consultation services. This assists users in achieving precise, internationalized, and highly accessible TCM health management.

GastroEase Biotech Limited is dedicated to providing globally leading solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, leveraging innovative technologies to enhance patients' quality of life. Its core projects include a diagnostic kit for the precise assessment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients, aiding doctors in better understanding patients' health conditions. Additionally, the company has developed prebiotic products and medications that combine traditional Chinese medicine with microbiome metabolites, offering personalised treatment plans. The project aims to provide comprehensive "precision diagnostics—targeted treatment" solutions for IBS patients, enhancing diagnostic and treatment efficiency and improving patient health.

Bronze Medal: Machine Learning-Powered System for Detecting Potential Trademark Infringements — Prof. XU Yida, Professor at Department of Mathematics and Department of Computer Science

The next-generation AI trademark detection system leverages advanced image recognition, machine learning, and deep learning technologies to perform real-time analysis and monitoring of large datasets. It is designed to help corporate legal departments swiftly identify trademark conflicts, enable e-commerce platforms to automatically detect infringement activities, and assist intellectual property offices in improving their examination processes. Furthermore, it supports design firms in assessing originality, thereby greatly enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of trademark protection.
