Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) participated for the first time in the 15th International Invention Fair (IIFME) in Kuwait, held from 16 to 19 February. The innovative inventions won four Gold Medals.
Organised by the Kuwait Science Club under the patronage of His Highness, the Emir of Kuwait, is one of the largest specialised exhibitions of inventions and innovations in the Middle East. This year's event was held in collaboration with the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, and the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. The first IIFME was held in 2007, and this edition featured 180 inventors from 42 countries, showcasing a total of 230 inventions.
The Gold Medals inventions are:
"Thermostable Pigment Nanofiber Coatings for Sustainable and Energy Saving Applications" by Dr Ken Cham-fai LEUNG, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry
This nanofiber tech enhances strength, durability, insulation, waterproofing, and corrosion resistance, reducing maintenance costs and extending structures' lifespans.
"Lip-password-based Technology for Identity Verification" by Prof. CHEUNG Yiu Ming, Chair Professor, Department of Computer Science
Advanced changeable lip password provides secure identity verification based on lip motion, settled the persistent problem of facial recognition in identical twins.
"Hydrogen Production from Biomass Waste: Pioneering Advanced Technology for Sustainable Energy Solutions" by Dr ZHAO Jun, Associate Professor, Department of Biology
Converting biomass waste with catalysts to high yield green hydrogen efficiently and environmentally friendly.
"M-cell GP2-mediated lymphatic-targeted drug carriers" by Prof. Simon HAN, Professor, School of Chinese Medicine
A Chinese medicine-derived polysaccharide strengthens oral vaccine efficacy, offering new treatments for lymphatic diseases.
