Business of IP Asia Forum 2025 & The 5th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions
The Business of Intellectual Property (BIP) Asia Forum 2025 successfully concluded on 5 December, following two days of dynamic exchange at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) made a significant presence, presenting five cutting-edge research projects and start-up to industry leaders from around the world, while also showcasing one additional project at the adjacent 5th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions (AEII) held during Entrepreneur Day.
In addition to the exhibition at BIP Asia Forum 2025, HKBU's project representatives, including Prof. XU Yida and Prof. ZHANG Hongjie, were invited speakers at the forum's “Bringing Tech to Business – Innovation Demo” session, while Mr. Gary Jin, CEO of Booguu Company Limited, delivered an insightful presentation during the investing pitching session “Tech Runway: Unveiling the Next Wave of AI Applications”. They engaged in fruitful discussions with global experts and investors, actively advancing the commercialisation pathways for the University's impactful intellectual property.
Exhibited Start-Up and Projects Introduction:
TadReamk Create
Principal Investigator: Prof. XU Yida, Professor of Department of Mathematics and Department of Computer Science, HKBU
HKBU Start-Up: TadRreamk Limited
Developed by TadReamk Limited, TadReamkCreate is a state-of-the-art generative AI system that transforms logo creation. It generates aesthetically pleasing logos that meet the highest brand standards by using proprietary methods to evaluate visual quality. The platform ensures that each design is unique, compliant, and safe for commercial use through robust mechanisms that check for trademark similarities, effectively avoiding infringement risks. This makes it an indispensable tool for crafting original logos that stand out.
Development of Justicia Chinese Medicinal Plants as Antiviral Veterinary Products
Principal Investigator: Prof. ZHANG Hongjie, Chair Professor of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine – Teaching and Research Division, HKBU
Prof. ZHANG’steam has discovered that compounds from Justicia plants show potent, broad-spectrum effects against animal viruses, such as the avian influenza virus. The natural ingredients exhibit high efficacy and safety, making them promising candidates for development into a new generation of feed additives and veterinary drugs. This breakthrough offers an innovative, natural solution for controlling animal viruses and preventing epidemics.
Towards Effective Temporal Anomaly Detection by Multi-Scale Hypergraph Transformer
Principal Investigator: Prof. Henry Hong Ning DAI, Associate Professor of Department of Computer Science, HKBU
Addressing the growing demand for time-series data monitoring across industries, Professor Dai has developed the innovative Multi-Scale Hypergraph Transformer (MSHTrans) anomaly detection algorithm. This model uniquely combines hypergraph neural networks with multi-scale analysis to simultaneously capture long-term trends and short-term fluctuations in data, accurately identifying complex temporal patterns. Experiments show that its detection performance surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods, providing a more reliable solution for real-time monitoring in various sectors.
AI-Powered Fact-Checking as a Service
Principal Investigator: Prof. LI Yupeng, Assistant Professor of Department of Interactive Media, Director of AIM AI and Social Good Lab, HKBU; Mr. WEN Dacheng, Visiting PhD Student of School of Communication, HKBU
To combat the rapid spread of misinformation, Prof. LI's team has developed a breakthrough AI platform delivering Fact-Checking as a Service (FaaS). The system makes truth verification scalable and reliable by using multiple AI agents that collaboratively analyse and challenge information, mirroring the reasoning of human experts. This on-demand service produces accurate, explainable verdicts, empowering governments, businesses, and the public to safeguard the trustworthiness of information in today's complex digital world.
Bio-Inspired Houzao
Principal Investigator: Prof. Simon HAN, Professor of School of Chinese Medicine - Teaching and Research Division, HKBU
The market for natural Houzao is plagued by scarcity, high costs, widespread counterfeits, and inconsistent quality. To solve this, Professor Han’s team has developed a breakthrough low-cost solution that consistently produces a substitute replicating 99% of the natural extract chemical profile. This innovation resolves core market issues of supply, authenticity, and quality control, offering a stable and reliable alternative.
Tryptophan sulphonates: a new chemical marker for accurate and efficient inspection of sulphur-treated food products
Principal Investigator: Prof. XU Jun, Assistant Professor at the School of Chinese Medicine (Teaching and Research Division), HKBU
This pioneering method inspects sulphur-treated food and Chinese herbal medicines by detecting a new chemical marker, tryptophan sulphonates. Compared to current techniques, it is more accurate, rapid, and efficient for testing large sample quantities. This significantly improves food safety and quality assurance, offering a robust new tool for the industry.
