The Intellectual Property Forum Greater Bay Area 2022, themed “Empowering your IP knowledge on Art Tech and Health Care!”, was successfully convened on the 26th and 27th of May through the collaborative efforts of the Knowledge Transfer Office and the University Library at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), the Faculty of Law at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office at the University of Macau, and the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government. The event aimed to enhance the understanding of intellectual property rights across various sectors.
Inaugurating the webinar were keynote addresses from Mr. David Wong Fuk-loi, Director of the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government, and Dr. Claudia Xu Jian, Vice-Rector (Administration) at the University of Macau. The forum drew an audience exceeding 250 participants, including faculty members, students, librarians, and administrative and research staff from academic institutions throughout Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China, alongside startup entrepreneurs and industry executives.
The inaugural session featured insights from Miss Gigi Chung Tsui-chi and Mr. Joseph Yeung Kin-hang, Senior Solicitors at the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government; Dr. Oliver Lutze, Spruson & Ferguson (Asia) Beijing's Country Manager for China; and Professor Hu Yuanjia, Associate Professor at the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences at the University of Macau. They provided expert analysis on “Copyright and patent in Hong Kong”, “Distinguishing features of pharmaceutical patenting in China”, and the intersection of “Big data and biomedical patents”.
On the following day, Mr. Joerg Sosna, Principal of Trade Marks at Spruson & Ferguson (Hong Kong) Limited, and Professor Alice Lee Suet-ching, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at HKU, imparted their specialised knowledge on “Trade marks in the metaverse” and “Advancing your copyright understanding”, respectively. They also engaged with the queries posed by attendees during the interactive Q&A sessions.
