Department of Physics invention wins excellence award in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition

The patented invention entitled “Traceable Fruit Quality Detection Solution: Cloud-based big data for fruit quality monitoring & authentication” by Prof. Zhu Furong, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Science, has won the Excellence Award in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition 2023. The awards ceremony was held on January 9, 2024, and Prof. Zhu Furong was interviewed by Guangzhou TV as well.

In the ceremony, guests gained a deeper understanding of Professor Zhu Furong’s invention patents. including Mr David Wong Fuk-loi, Director of Intellectual Property, the Government of the HKSAR; Chan Tze Wai, Deputy Director of Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Government of the Macao SAR ; Xie Hong, Deputy Director of Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center, etc.

The Competition attracted the participation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, higher education institutions and research bodies from all over the country, including Hong Kong and Macao. A total of 809 patented inventions qualified for the first round of the Competition after the preliminary review. The final was held in mid-December, with assessments conducted in the form of roadshows, question and answer sessions, and evaluations by a judging panel.

The invention patent awarded is led by Prof. Zhu Furong, and supported by a project team composed of master’s and doctoral students conducting research.
