If you are interested in entrepreneurship and any of the above qualities describe you, join the $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal Competition now!  This is a great opportunity to wake up the entrepreneurial potential within yoSimply write down your business ideas for any product or services in the format of a business proposal within three A4 pages, and compete for one of the eight HK$5,000 cash prizes!

  • All currently enrolled HKBU students
  • Individual or team welcome

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Send the completed Competition Entry Form to best-hkbu@hkbu.edu.hk, and mark "$5,000 FOR 3 PAGES" in the subject line.

Please describe your business proposal (in English or Chinese) within three A4 pages. The description should capture clearly and fully your proposal.  Content of your proposal may include:

  • Background of the business idea
  • Aim of the business
  • Analysis of current market
  • Operation model of the business
    • Target market and clientele, potential for growth
    • Value proposition (i.e., the value that your product or service offer to the consumer)
    • Analysis of current and potential competitors
    • Distribution of resources (i.e., distribution of capital and human resources)
    • Capital expenditure
    • Revenue model
    • Partner network
    • Core capability
    • Teamwork assignment

Each individual or team participant may submit a maximum of three entries (please use a separate Competition Entry Form for each proposal).

JUDGING CRITERIA

Entries will be assessed using the following rubric:

Market Potential Uniqueness(e.g. industrial background, market needs and competitors) 10%
Potential for growth(e.g. current market size and future market growth) 10%
Marketing Strategy Exploitation of resource (e.g. human and capital resources) 10%
Product advantage 5%
Product penetration (e.g. expecting market share and strategy to achieve it) 5%
Sustainability (e.g. financial projection to show its sustainability) 10%
Creativity Originality (e.g. scalability for mass production) 10%
Difficult-to-imitate (e.g. barrier of entry) 10%
Revenue Model Revenue channel (e.g. source of steady income) 10%
Capital expenditure (e.g. cost control) 10%
Social Influence Tangible aspect(e.g. tangible benefits to the society) 5%
Intangible aspect(e.g. intangible benefits to the society) 5%

 

CONFIDENTIALITY

Knowledge Transfer Office is the organizer of this competition, and will handle participants’ personal information and business ideas with strict confidentiality.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Am I eligible for $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal Competition if I did not participate in $500 FOR 1 PAGE - Business Idea Competition?

$500 FOR 1 PAGE - Business Idea, $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal, and $300,000 FOR NEW VENTURE - Business Plan are individual competitions, and one’s result in one competition does not affect your eligibility nor result in the other competitions.  One may participate in one or all of these competitions.

2. Am I eligible for the BEST business competition series if I am not from the School of Business Administration?

BEST is an entrepreneurship platform organized by Knowledge Transfer Office for ALL HKBU students.  Anyone is eligible as long as he / she is currently enrolled as a student at HKBU.

3. Is there any restriction to the content of the $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal Competition?

To encourage students to be more active in entrepreneurship and think outside the box, the competition does not put any restriction to the content of the business proposal.  Any business plan for commercial company or social enterprise that positively contributes to the society is fair game.

4. Do I have to write three full pages for the $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal Competition?

This competition encourages students to describe their business plan with clarity and detail.  Clear and detailed business plans may be more advantageous during screening and judging.

5. I have participated in $500 FOR 1 PAGE - Business Idea Competition.  May I use the same idea for $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Plan Competition?

The same idea may be used but the business plan should be written with greater clarity and detail than the business idea to be competitive in this competition.

What is Business Entrepreneurship Support and Training?

Business Entrepreneurship Support & Training (BEST) is the first university-wide entrepreneurship program to offer support and training to equip students with can-do attitude and business acumen to become successful entrepreneurs in the turbulent business environment.

BEST is built on three key components: Entrepreneurship-Challenge (E-Challenge), Entrepreneurial Sharing and Networking (ESAN), and Entrepreneurship-Space (E-Space), aiming to encourage, promote, and cultivate entrepreneurial culture via a series of events and incubation services:

  • Annual entrepreneurship events at HKBU
  • On-campus HKBU Incubation Offices
  • Opportunities (university-wide competitions), resources (training and incubation facility support), and team (staff, advisors, and external contacts) to drive enterprise development
  • Trans-border entrepreneurship exchange opportunities for students and staff at HKBU with regional and international institutions

What’s Entrepreneurship-Challenge (E-Challenge)?

E-Challenge is a series of business plan competitions for both simple and sophisticated business and social enterprises ideas for students at all levels. It encourages students to be keen observers of this society and seize every business opportunity.

BEGINNER

For students who are just starting to become aware of entrepreneurship, they are encouraged to engage in ideation by participating in $500 FOR 1 PAGE - Business Idea Competition. This competition will be organised early on in the academic year, and 20 awards will be given to encourage wide participation.

INTERMEDIATE

For those who are starting to understand entrepreneurship, they are encouraged to expand their business ideas into 3-page proposals / executive summaries and participate in $5,000 FOR 3 PAGES - Business Proposal Competition. Eight awards will be given to encourage wide participation.

ADVANCED

As students mature on their learning path and start to contemplate starting their own business, they are encouraged to take part in an open $300,000 FOR NEW VENTURE - Business Plan Competition, where they will plan their business in great detail. Contestants will submit their business plans in one of the two categories—business venture and social enterprise—and the best business plan in each category will be awarded $300,000 ($50,000 in cash and $250,000 in kind). The award will cover further entrepreneurial trainings, professional business services, as well as one year’s rental and service for Incubation Offices to put their entrepreneurial idea into practice.

An annual Gala Reception cum Award Ceremony will complement E-Challenge, by inviting members of HKBU, donors and sponsors to a gala reception, during which awards of $300,000 for New Venture will be presented.
