After receiving a great number of nominations, we are delighted to announce the following Top 5 nominated local entrepreneurs:
(in no particular order)
Mr. Jerry Siu
Founder of Journalize
Mr. Timothy Ma Kam-wah, JP
Founding member of the Social Entrepreneurship Forum
Vice-chairman of the General Chamber of Social Enterprise
Mr Timothy Ma Kam-wah is a registered social worker, a Justice of the Peace and a Fellow Certified Risk Planner. From the perspective of social innovation, he is definitely more than the sum of the above. He is a founding member of the Social Entrepreneurship Forum and Vice-chairman of the General Chamber of Social Enterprise. Starting with children and youth service, Timothy joined the social work profession 38 years ago and obtained his bachelor degree in social work in 1985. Besides serving local communities, he also took part in international relief and fundraising work of World Vision Hong Kong.
As Executive Director of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association from August 1996, Timothy was responsible for the development, promotion and operation of the 24-hour Personal Emergency Link Service. The Association believes that welfare service can flourish with its viable business operation, and also by continuously expanding the scope of services. The Emergency Link Service is successfully replicated in five cities in the Mainland by means of consultancy and staff development model. He loves to think wild in the quest for insights. Being a die-hard fan of the Marathon, he likes to invite others to run with him, just as he does in running on the road leading to innovative social enterprise.
Mr. Ricky Wong Wai-kay
Chairman and Founder of Hong Kong Television Network Limited
Founder of Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited
Wong possesses extensive experiences in telecommunications and technology industries. He set up City Telecom (H.K.) Limited in 1992, providing alternative IDD services at affordable tariffs, leading to the subsequent collapse of the market monopoly, which was described as "David Vs. Goliath" legend in the telecom market. In 1999, he established Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited, built a territory-wide fibre network to provide super high speed broadband, telephony and IP-TV services, and has become the second largest IP provider. In 2010, Wong was voted the 60th most powerful person in Global Telecoms Business by the Global Telecom Business Magazine.
In 2009, HKTV applied for a Domestic Free Television Program Service Licence and in 2012, he disposed all telecom businesses and remains focused on the development of TV and multimedia businesses. However, HKTV's application was subsequently rejected in October 2013, and Wong is now leading HKTV to march towards the new business – mobile TV and Internet shopping.
Wong is renowned for his innovative, bold and strategic edges, as well as his never-give-up spirit.
