To encourage immersive learning for new venture creation and promote entrepreneurship across local and overseas universities, BEST under KTO organised the second HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp from 18 to 21 May on campus. During the four days, 76 like-minded participants from HKBU, University of California, Berkeley, University of Oxford, Nanjing University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in a holistic entrepreneurship training programme where they formed teams and turned their creative ideas into reality through a comprehensive array of activities, such as interactive discussions, lectures, practical workshops and game sessions.
Over 10 esteemed industry speakers from Hong Kong and overseas were invited to share their insights and experience on topics covering entrepreneurship mindset training, design thinking, pitching skills, fascinating startup stories and so forth.
Eight outstanding HKBU students from the Bootcamp attended the BMoE Bootcamp on UC Berkeley campus in August 2018 where they had the chance to further sharpen their skills and interact with investors, serial entrepreneurs and participants from the Silicon Valley and around the world.

The first Global Partnership event is the HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. With an aim to facilitate immersive learning for a new venture creation, the Business Support Entrepreneurship and Training Programme (BEST) under Knowledge Transfer Office, has selected like-minded students with their own business ideas to participate a holistic entrepreneurship bootcamp where participants can form teams, pitch ideas, attend interactive lectures, receive one-on-one mentoring from industry experts and learn in a collaborative environment. This was a good opportunity for connecting all the professions together in promoting entrepreneurship culture in the community. Three winning teams of the bootcamp will fly over to UC Berkeley and participate in the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in August 2017 –
UC Berkeley Bootcamp
13-19 Aug 2017 | The University of California, Berkeley
In mid-August, 12 HKBU students travelled to The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) to participate in a five-day intensive Bootcamp. For this learning trip of a lifetime, generously sponsored by Professor Shih Wing Ching and organised by the Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), they had to first pitch their ideas successfully at the three-day HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 2017 held on HKBU campus earlier in April. Representing HKBU were three student teams and one start-up team. The student teams included WorldClass, an online tutorial platform; Homeal which uses a sharing economy model to connect cooks to customers; and Ledo Ads, an end-to-end service for placing advertisements on previously idle spaces such as restaurant tabletops. Cathay Photonics, the start-up team and namesake of the company set up by Professor Cheah Kok-wai, Chair Professor of Physics, outpitched 22 other teams from 20 countries.
