At the start of 2020, the outbreak of coronavirus created a lot of barriers and obstacles for all of us. We may panic about the shortage of masks and sanitisers, worried about our friends and relatives, and try to adapt to the new changes brought by working/studying from home etc… All these barriers are affecting us physically and mentally.
From film cameras to digital cameras, the ways to record memories keep evolving, so is the industry. In this Entrepreneur Highlight, we are delighted to invite one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the photography, creative media and marketing industry – Mr Sam Sio, founder of PhotoGIFT (HK) Limited, Come Know (Asia) Limited and SME Lab, to share his invaluable experience with us.

However, with greater proportion of older citizens in our population, chronic illness like dementia also became increasingly prevalent in our everyday lives.
Under the global partnership between Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and UC Berkeley (Cal), the second cohort of 8 HKBU students from 3 academic units, who were financially supported by our generous donors and their respective academic units, participated in the Startup Semester Programme, which is organised by Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET), at Cal during the Fall semester (21 Aug 2019 - 20 Dec 2019). This Programme is an exclusive full semester programme, targeted at upper division undergraduates, providing qualified students from around the world an access to faculty and curriculum in a leading entrepreneurship programme at Cal. Let’s see what they have learnt and experienced in this programme from August to December 2019.
The HKBU Makernaut Programme is launched by Knowledge Transfer Office to promote STEM education and facilitate creativity and innovation development in the HKBU community. Joining this programme, you will be able to turn your innovative idea or an on-going project into reality with a variety of facilities and services offered at the Inno Space.
Jointly organised by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Lingnan University (LU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, the Hong Kong Techathon 2020 was successfully concluded on 12 January 2020. Hong Kong Techathon 2020 provided a platform for all programmers, engineers, designers, marketers and entrepreneurs to find like-minded teammates for venture creation.
To celebrate the start of 2020 and the spring semester, a reunion was held on 21 January 2020 for our ambassadors. As it was near the Chinese New Year, this gathering was a perfect opportunity to introduce some Chinese New Year customs and traditions to our diverse mix of ambassadors from countries all over the world.
The Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2020, jointly organised by Cyberport with seven local universities including City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Open University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong, is now calling for applications!
Led by the Knowledge Transfer Office, the annual flagship Bootcamp will be back this summer in an entirely new location - the Greater Bay Area China (GBA)! 80 global participants from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, mainland China etc. will gather on the Zhuhai campus of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) for a 10-day transformational entrepreneurship journey. These young aspiring entrepreneurs, who are interested in incorporating AI & Big Data in their healthcare and smart entertainment projects, will be able to explore firsthand the ample opportunities GBA provides. Participants will be visiting various Chinese companies and organisations where they can interact with different seasoned entrepreneurs and actual users to validate their ideas in the real world.
