By offering a 4-day intensive programme based on the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship from UC Berkeley, the Bootcamp is dedicated to supporting students from all around the world to pursue their entrepreneurial endeavours and to expand the entrepreneurship ecosystem of HKBU with our global partners.
The opening ceremony, namely the HKBU Entrepreneur Day Opening Ceremony for HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp cum HKBU TSSSU Companies Innovation Showcase held on 24 May 2019 was a great success. Officiating at the opening ceremony were Dr. Clement C.J. Chen, SBS, JP, the Chairman of the Council and the Court of Hong Kong Baptist University, Dr. David Chung, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology of Innovation and Technology Bureau and Mr. Stephen Liang, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
Have you ever heard of 9GAG? 9GAG is a very popular online social media platform that allows users to upload and share humorous photos and videos with the world. Do you know the founders of 9GAG are actually from Hong Kong? On the first day of the Bootcamp, we were glad to have Mr. Ray Chan, Co-founder of 9GAG, to be our keynote speaker. He shared with the participants his fascinating entrepreneurship journey as well as the six essential ‘Infinity Stones’ every entrepreneur should have.
Imagine you were walking down the street and a group of young students approached you and offered you a lollipop in exchange of one of your valuable personal items. How would you react? Would you just walk away or would you stop for a minute and listen to what these young entrepreneurs have to say?
How does it work when tradition meets innovation? On the second day of the Bootcamp, we invited 2 successful entrepreneurs who owned brands that promote Hong Kong culture. They are Mr. Calvin Tse, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kam Kee Holdings Limited and Mr. Thomas Hung, Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Easy Group (Hong Kong) Limited.
What could possibly happen in a one-minute elevator ride? Elevator Pitch has always been one of the signature activities of the Bootcamp. We were honored to have Mr. Nathan Gold, Chief Coach of The Demo Coach, Mr. Michael Chow, Managing Partner of Radiant tech Ventures Limited and Dr Alfred Tan, Head of Knowledge Transfer Office at HKBU to give valuable feedbacks to the contesters for their advance improvement. The atmosphere was tense yet heart-warming. Although their teammates could not get into the elevator, they were all standing at the back of the elevator lobby cheering for their representatives.
Apart from the fruitful Bootcamp experience, 7 outstanding HKBU students were selected to join the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (BMoE) at UC Berkeley this summer while four winning teams can get funding opportunity to pursue their venture creation!
All endings are beginnings. After the 4-day Bootcamp, the participants not only learned a lot from our speakers, mentors and judges, but also got ready to realise their dreams! During the 4-day journey, we saw laughers, hard-work, sincerity, and growth. It was very impressive to see participants enjoying the Bootcamp and stepping out of their comfort zones. Let us give them a big round of applause and check out what these young people think about their Bootcamp experience.
The Bootcamp was a great success, thank you participants for their devotion and hard work. Thank you speakers, judges and mentors for the inspirations and feedback brought to the participants. As a final note, we would like to express our greatest gratitude to all the donors, mentors and sponsors for the generous support to our Bootcamp.
