To cultivate a new venture creation culture at HKBU, the second HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp was successfully organised on campus on 18-21 May, 2018, providing immersive training of entrepreneurship to our HKBU students and other students from local universities such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as overseas universities including University of Oxford and Nanjing University. 80 like-minded participants joined this holistic entrepreneurship training programme where they formed teams and turned their creative ideas into reality through a comprehensive array of activities, such as interactive discussions, lectures, practical workshops and game sessions. Over 10 esteemed industry speakers from Hong Kong and overseas were invited to share their insights and experience on topics covering entrepreneurship mindset training, design thinking, pitching skills, fascinating startup stories and so forth.
Featured speakers included: Mr Nathan Gold, “The DemoCoach” and Wall Street Journal’s designated “Elevator Pitch Expert” who taught participants “How to Captivate any Audience”; Mr Reeve Kwan, Founder of GoGoVan, who shared on “The Way to Unicorn”; Ms Isabel Fan, Regional Director of Tesla Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, who highlighted the needs to “Accelerate the World’s Transition to Sustainable Energy”; Mr Jimmy Tao, CEO of Vitargent (International) Biotechnology Limited, who elaborated on “Vitargent – Biotech Startup in Hong Kong”; and 13-year-old “kidpreneur” and CEO of online educational platform MinorMynas, Miss Hillary Yip, who spoke on “MinorMynas and the aspiring kidpreneur”.
With the generous donation from Prof Shih Wing-ching, Mr Mark Siu, Mr. Dickson Shang and Mr NC Wong, eight outstanding HKBU students from the Bootcamp were fully sponsored to attend the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (BMoE) on UC Berkeley campus in August 2018 where they had the chance to further sharpen their skills and interact with investors, serial entrepreneurs and participants from the Silicon Valley and the rest of the world.
Our heartiest thanks to all our donors, sponsors, consultants, speakers, mentors and everyone who spared time giving guidance and on-site support to our budding entrepreneurs. Thank you for making our Bootcamp another great success! See you again next year!
