Among Prof Sidhu’s contributions, the co-creation of a unique teaching method called the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship which emphasises an understanding of the mindsets and behaviours that most likely lead to entrepreneurial success. To cultivate a new venture creation culture at HKBU, the second HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp was successfully organised on campus on 18-21 May, 2018, providing immersive training of entrepreneurship to our HKBU students and other students from local universities such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as overseas universities including University of Oxford and Nanjing University. 80 like-minded participants joined this holistic entrepreneurship training programme where they formed teams and turned their creative ideas into reality through a comprehensive array of activities, such as interactive discussions, lectures, practical workshops and game sessions. Over 10 esteemed industry speakers from Hong Kong and overseas were invited to share their insights and experience on topics covering entrepreneurship mindset training, design thinking, pitching skills, fascinating startup stories and so forth.
With the generous support from the HKBU’s alumni and donors, eight outstanding HKBU students from the HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 2018 have great opportunities to fly out to the US in order to participate in the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp(BMoE). The bootcamp was held on 13-17 August 2018, which was organised by Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET) of University of California, Berkeley (Cal).
Since HKBU is currently one of 15 global partners of Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) of University of California, Berkeley (Cal), HKBU students have wonderful opportunities to join the Startup Semester Programme on Cal campus now. In collaboration with the HKBU schools and faculties, Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) launched a campaign to recruit HKBU students to join the Startup Semester Programme held by SCET at Cal in the first semester of 2018/19 academic year. After several rounds of selection process, the first team of seven HKBU students from six academic units were awarded the offers and received the financial support from donors and their respective academic units to subsidise their tuition fees and airfares so that they can join the Programme.
